Heat Treater (NT)

Education and Training:

You can work as a heat treater without formal qualifications. You will probably get some informal training on the job.

You can also become a heat treater through a traineeship in Engineering. Entry requirements may vary, but employers generally require Year 10. Ask your career adviser about the possibility of starting some of this training in school.

Additional Information:

Once you are employed, you may be able to develop, and have recognised, additional skills under the Metal and Engineering Training Package that will expand your career opportunities within this industry.

Employment Opportunities:

Heat treaters are employed mainly by foundries, steel pipe and tube manufacturers, and firms which make iron and steel products. Employment opportunities also exist with contract heat treatment companies, hardware and automotive component manufacturers, and aircraft component companies.
