Dental Assistant (SA)
Education and Training:
To become a dental assistant you usually have to complete a certificate in dental assisting. Entry to the course below usually requires SACE Stage 1 or Year 11.
You can also become a dental assistant through an apprenticeship in Dental Assisting. Entry requirements may vary, but employers generally require Year 10. Ask your career adviser about the possibility of starting some of this training in school.

Employment Opportunities:
Most dental assistants are employed by dentists in private practices and clinics. Some dental assistants undertake further study to become dental hygienists. Others gain further administrative experience and possibly qualifications to progress to practice management.
It is a large occupation with good employment opportunities.
