Dental Therapist (QLD)
Education and Training:
To become a dental therapist you have to study oral health at university. Training courses provide dual training in dental therapy and dental hygiene. To get into the courses below you usually need to pass your QCE. Prerequisite subjects, or assumed knowledge, in one or more of English, mathematics B, biological science, chemistry and physics are normally required. Applicants may also be required to attend an interview and carry out an aptitude test before acceptance into the course. The various universities have different prerequisites and some have flexible entry requirements. Contact the universities you are interested in for more information as requirements may change.

- Bachelor of Oral Health in Oral Health Therapy, 3 years full time
University of Queensland - St Lucia Campus:
- Bachelor of Oral Health, 3 years full time
Additional Information:
Dental therapists must be registered with the Dental Registration Board of the state or territory in which they intend to work.

Employment Opportunities:
The public sector oral health services are the major employers of dental therapists. They work in fixed and mobile clinics promoting oral health care to children from pre-school to Year 10.
Opportunities for career progression include positions in research and teaching, and senior clinical and administrative positions coordinating health promotion activities in dental health services state- or territory-wide.
