Education and Training:

Indigenous community liaison officers are known as police liaison officers in Queensland.

You can work as a police liaison officer without formal qualifications. You will usually need to undertake training on the job after an initial 2-week induction at the Police Academy.

You can also become a police liaison officer through a traineeship in Public Safety (Police Liaison). Entry requirements may vary but employers usually require Year 10. Ask your career adviser about the possibility of starting some of this training in school.

People who have established good networks within Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander communities are encouraged to apply. Applicants need to meet police selection criteria.

The demand for police liaison officers in Queensland is growing and is dependent on the existence of police and community funded initiatives.

Police liaison officers are also encouraged to attend external and internal bridging courses to improve general literacy and numeracy skills, in order to move into the general police force or related areas.
