You can work as a hotel or motel manager without formal qualifications. Skills are usually learnt on the job through experience in the hospitality industry. Entry to this occupation may be improved if you have hospitality management qualifications or relevant experience.

Entry to the diploma and degree courses usually requires Year 12.

Hotel or motel managers are employed by hotels, motels, resorts, guesthouses and hostels throughout the country. They may work in privately owned hotels or motels, or in companies that operate a chain of establishments.

Job prospects depend on the level of tourism and economic activity. High turnover may provide additional job openings, but competition for positions is intense.
