Geoscience Technician (QLD)
Education and Training:
To become a geoscience technician you usually have to complete a VET qualification in geoscience. As subjects and prerequisites can vary between institutions, you should contact your chosen institution for further information.
Additional Information:
A drivers licence with at least six months of driving experience is usually required. A first aid certificate is also highly recommended.

Employment Opportunities:
Geoscience technicians work for mining and exploration firms, government agencies and university geology departments. Some competition from recent university geology graduates can be expected, as many start their careers as technicians.
Many technicians work on a subcontracted basis in mineral and petroleum exploration. Some are self-employed in small geological contracting companies.
Job opportunities depend largely on the level of activity in the mining industry and staff turnover.
