State/Territory Specific Information

Education and Training:

You can work as a gaming worker without formal qualifications, but employers usually require at least Year 10. You will probably get some informal training on the job.

You can also become a gaming worker through a traineeship in Hospitality. Entry requirements may vary but employers usually require Year 10. Ask your career adviser about the possibility of starting some of this training in school.

Additional Information:

People working in the gaming area may be required to be licensed. Licensing requirements may include a police check, credit references and fingerprinting. You must also complete a Responsible Conduct of Gambling Certificate, which may either be incorporated into staff training or have to be completed separately.

Employment Opportunities:

Casino Canberra and Star City Casino run their own intensive training courses when new croupiers are required. Trainee croupiers are instructed in gaming rules, and basic chipping and shuffling skills. Successful applicants are chosen by a combination of their application, interview and aptitude test performance.
