Ministers' welcome
We are delighted to present the Job Guide.
The Job Guide is a resource to help you work out what you might want to do as a career. It contains general information about developing your career, including study and work options available to you and information on how to get a job. Hundreds of jobs are described as well as the personal requirements and education and training you need to do those jobs.
When you finish school, you might want to look for work full-time or part-time, study at university or TAFE or through a private training organisation, or do volunteer work. You might want to mix and match these options. With so many choices sometimes it can be hard working out which way to go.
Thinking about what you enjoy and what you are good at can help you work out what you might be interested in doing in the future. The things you do outside school like sport, volunteering, hobbies or casual jobs can also help you work out what your strengths are and what you enjoy.
Don’t be afraid to seek assistance from others when making decisions about your career. Your parents, friends, teachers and career advisers can all help. Job Guide includes a downloadable brochure called Parents Talking Career Choices. This brochure is for your parents and carers to read, to help them to understand the different options you may be considering. It is a great starting point for sharing ideas and discussing your options together. They may also be able to share with you how they decided upon their careers.
We know that you will find Job Guide helpful when making career decisions. We wish you every success in achieving your goals.
