Librarians design, develop and manage collections of recorded material and help users find information.

Library collections can include books, magazines, computer games and software, photographs, journals, maps, microfilms, CDs, e-books and other digital information.

Specialisations:

In large libraries, librarians may specialise in areas such as acquisition, research, cataloguing, online services or children's services. They may also work in specialist libraries, including corporate, legal, medical or school libraries. Information Manager

An information manager is responsible for bridging the gap between sources of information and those who need to access it. Information managers may also become involved in research, technical writing, public relations, desktop publishing, database management and design, and market research.

Librarians are assisted in their work by library technicians and library assistants.
