Army Soldier
Army soldiers are employed as soldiers first and foremost, but may work in jobs in administration, management, transport, finance, supply and a variety of trades, and as tank drivers, gunners and riflemen.
Soldiers may perform the following tasks:
- operate and maintain a wide variety of military equipment
- participate in classroom lectures and field training in the areas of navigation, field craft, administration, vehicle maintenance, computer skills and leadership.
Specialisations:
An army soldier may specialise as an/a:
- Cook - cooks for Army personnel in different environments ranging from formal events through to exercises in the field.
- Supply Coordinator - performs a range of duties from stores accounting, electronic ledger supply, and warehousing duties including receiving and issuing stores.
- Electronic Warfare Operator - listens to or interferes with enemy electronic transmissions.
- Communication Systems Operator - responsible for the operation of communications equipment.
- Administration Clerk - responsible for their unit's correspondence and maintenance of records and files.
- Ammunition Supplier - performs a range of duties from stores accounting, electronic ledger entry, to warehousing duties including receiving and issuing ammunition.
Army soldiers can be posted to capital or regional cities throughout Australia and are expected to serve in a variety of units and formations throughout their careers. Soldiers may travel nationally, and possibly internationally whilst in the Army.
Personal Requirements:
- physically fit
- good interpersonal and communication skills
- high degree of self-discipline
- willing to serve anywhere in Australia or overseas
- meet aptitude and medical requirements
- at least 17 years of age
- Australian citizenship.
